Some Suggestions as to How to Address Our Current State

  • Educate everybody in Canada and abroad about this legacy

  • Have procedures in place to accommodate the fallout of this reality. Meaning there is going to be a surge in people seeking their own Identities and Spirituality in the process of healing

  • Language revitalization, research, preservation and promotion need to be in place.

  • Virtual Games involved with retaining, preserving,  promoting and continuing culture need to be developed

  • Rewrite the history of Canada that includes the Indigenous input and experience.

  • Become comfortable talking about awkward issues such as racism, white privilege, white supremacy, religion, politics, Doctrine of Discovery…etc.

Conclusion

As a result of this journey I became healthy and functional because I had looked into myself and found balance. I had internally blamed myself for all the things that I did not live up to. Every time I found something that had impeded my positive contribution to the whole society I felt better because the way I was; was not all my fault. I understood why my parents, grandparents and fellow Indigenous people were the way they were and I could cope with it. Once I acquired this knowledge of my intergenerational history I was able to stay sober, complete my education, be a better spouse, keep a job, return to my cultural practices, live with less fear, guilt, shame, anger…etc. Even my nightmares disappeared. I went from fighting, fleeing or freezing to balancing. My hope is that you will find inspiration in this and find further ways to heal ourselves as people.
