(We will walk the talk)
It is vital that for our language to be a living language and it must return as a central element of everyday life for both the general community and also for our youth: it cannot become marginalized as a ceremonial language. This can be a particular challenge for our youth when social media does not accommodate the use of our language and television, radio, and the internet are dominated by other languages, in particular, English.
The positive influence of language revitalization cannot be overstated. There is documented evidence that almost every aspect of the lives of indigenous speakers are enhanced when they are able to embrace their own language. From physical and mental health to social wellbeing and economic prosperity, research indicates that regaining a traditional language is transformative.
